The National Prescribing Service (NPS) provides accurate, balanced, evidence-based information and services to health professionals and the community on Quality Use of Medicines (QUM).
There are materials and activities on medicines designed specifically for the consumer, including a catalogue of free materials which you can order online.
The Health Professionals page provides case studies, clinical audits, alerts, fact sheets and a range of resources with links to RADAR and the Therapeutic Advice and Information Service (TAIS).
The National Prescribing Service Facilitator is Shirley Proctor, She visits practices providing either individual evidence based education or facilitating small group case studies on two separate topics per year.
These meetings count towards the Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI) payment which is one of the Practice Incentives Programs (PIP) The QPI activity requirements are that a practice is required to complete at least three activities per FTE GP within the period 1st May to 30th April.
As part of this there must be one clinical audit per FTE GP. Enrolment forms are provided with the Australian Prescriber, distributed from CHGPN and available on the NPS Health Professionals website where a sample of the current audit format can be viewed.
